Games to Play at the Park (No Equipment Needed)

Some of the best playground fun doesn't come from the equipment at all. Here are reliable favorites for a group of kids at any park:

• Red Light, Green Light — one kid calls out "green light" (go), "red light" (freeze), or "yellow light" (slow motion).
• Freeze Dance — someone hums or plays music from a phone; when it stops, everyone freezes.
• Shadow Tag — instead of tagging a person, you tag their shadow.
• Duck Duck Goose — the classic circle game, still a hit for preschool and early school-age kids.
• Simon Says — great for burning energy while working on listening skills.
• Follow the Leader — one kid leads a silly walk/movement pattern around the playground.
